Urgent Issues Like Rail Worker Shortages & Working Conditions Set to Get Attention

(La Junta, CO) -- BNSF employs a large number of Otero, Crowley and Bent County residents so it is likely of interest to many that the Surface Transportation Board will be holding hearings to address some urgent issues facing the industry.

According to Progressiverailroading.com, the testimony expected at this week's hearings will be from representatives of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Federal Maritime Commission and several shippers organizations, including the National Grain and Feed Association, American Farm Bureau Federation, American Chemistry Council, the Fertilizer Institute, Cargill and Growth Energy. Labor union representatives are also expected to testify.

The hearings were scheduled following grave concerns coming from shippers, labor unions and public officials who reported problems with rail service, rail worker shortages and/or employee working conditions.

The hearings will be broadcast on the Surface Transportation Board's You Tube channel. The hearing will address concerns felt by BNSF, Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific.
