No Trial for Edward Aragon

Updated: Jun 25, 2022

(La Junta, CO) -- There's been another delay in getting the murder trial for Edward Aragon underway. Last week some four hundred potential jurors had been called to appear and the 16th Judicial district conducted a process to select the 12 and one alternate who would sit in judgement of Aragon.

The delay for the trial this time around was due to an inability to provide transcripts from the previous trial to use at the current trial.

That previous trial happened in February of 2022 and was nearly finished when it was declared a mistrial.

Last summer, in 2021 it seemed as if the trial was definitely a go but in the 11th hour an ethics complaint on Aragon's defense attorney at that time, NOT his current attorney. It was decided to continue to trial, legal speak for another delay. Aragon's current defense representation, Daniel Kent, took on Aragon's case after the complaint was made on the previous public defender.

The new date selected for Edward Aragon's trial is now scheduled for October 24th through November 10th. A new jury call will go out at that time.

Aragon has been awaiting his jury trial and has been behind bars since 2015. He will be tried for the death of his girlfriend.
