Highway 50 Improvement Grant Would Add Passing Lanes

(La Junta, CO) -- Otero County commissioners all agreed to sign a letter of support that would hopefully make Highway 50 a little safer. County Administrator Amy White Tanabe says they could take advantage of a federal grant of 25 million dollars to add passing lanes in Prowers, Bent and Otero counties. There would be 12 sections of passing lanes or six pairs Tanabe said. "we all know we really want the four lanes, but um, I'm thinking the closer we can get to anything that's safer, the better," she added.

The action at Monday's regularly scheduled Otero County Commissioner meeting was to sign a letter of support to act as the fiscal agent and applicant for the project.

Tanabe explained that the improvements project with the passing lanes added would still be a few years out.
