Bent County Holds Off on Decision for ARF/AV Farms

(Las Animas, CO) -- A full house of Bent County Residents had interest in an agenda item on Thursday's Bent County Commissioners meeting. The meeting item was to review an application that stated AV Farms, LLP (“AV Farms”) jointly request that the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Bent (the “Board”) acting as the Permit Authority approve the following modifications to the 1041 Permit partially releasing ARF and assigning partial responsibility to AV Farms.

AV Farms Manager Karl Nyquist along with several others answered Bent County Citizens questions about the process and even brought a revegetation specialist to explain their challenges.

Nyquist explained it's been hard for them to revegetate land previously dried up because of the lack of rain to Southeast Colorado in the last few years.

The land was to be used for a dairy North of Las Animas, but that hasn't happened.

Commissioner Alan Stump read a letter aloud in the meeting he explained was from a concerned citizen. Commissioner Jennifer Scofield spoke up and said she wasn't comfortable making the decision to grant the request without more counsel and a motion was made to postpone until July.
