(La Junta, CO) -- Otero County wants Southeast Colorado and the entire state to know, they won't be participating in the "Eat Less Meat" campaign originating by Denver Mayor Mike

County Administrator Amy White Tanabe summarized Resolution 2025-15 that states:
Agriculture is the economic backbone and cultural foundation of Otero County and rural Colorado.
Colorado has many generations of farmers/ranchers who contribute to the state's economy.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston's "Eat Less Meat" campaign and Governor Jared Polis' "Meat Out Day, are undermining agriculture in the state.
Actions are viewed by many in rural areas as a pattern of disregard that belittles rural values, economics and the way of life by leaders in the city.
Further, it widens cultural and political divide.
The timing of the campaign coincides with the 150th birthday of the state of Colorado which is supported by ranchers and the agricultural industry.
Suggesting that eating less meat is healthier goes against nutritional science.
Tanabe spoke about the decision to draw up the resolution, "We're doing our best to feed America, and others as well,"
Commissioner Tim Knabenshue suggested support for our Southeast Colorado ranchers and shared that meat is on his plate.
"We support our ranchers and eat as much meat as we can get."
The resolution passed and is on record as Resolution 2025-15.
