Colorado News Your Way is waiting for a response from Las Animas Police Chief David Doughtery concerning an inquiry we made to a second police officer placed on leave.

A follower reached out to ask us, so we asked the Chief last week, September 30th. Chief Doughtery responded that he would have something to us by the end of the day.

So, we waited, and followed up.

Response was that the Chief was on his days off but would have something for us by Monday.

We asked because you asked. You contacted us concerned about another officer on leave in such a small department.

This topic, perhaps, is getting more attention lately due to Las Animas Police Officer Thomas Dunagan being placed on leave following charges of extortion and official misconduct. (see related content on there in this link: https://www.coloradonewsyourway.com/post/officer-dunagan-s-first-court-hearing-in-charges-of-extortion-and-official-misconduct)

Dunagan, according to an earlier news release from the City of Las Animas Police Department was placed on unpaid leave after the summons was issued.

Dunagan has been to court once already on the charges with another court hearing set for November 2nd.

We are waiting on word from the Police Chief on whether or not a second officer is on leave, and are not suggesting the two are related.

According to the City of Las Animas Police Department's website, there are currently six police officers, with one code enforcement officer.
