Take a Hike, Turnpike

~Anne Boswell

If you opened up an unknown number to see a text reading "Colorado Traffic Violation Notice," you're among of few of us who have seen such a thing.

The text reads that you've been recorded and have a violation such as not paying a toll, not registering your vehicle, etc. They threaten that if you don't take action by clicking their link they will transfer such information to a recovery department with a 35% additional fee. They threaten that there will be legal action and your credit impacted.

They use words like "authority" and "suspension" and "database" to scare you into being scammed.

They might even say you traveled a toll road and didn't pay.

I replied to my text, "Pound Sand! I don't use toll roads!"

But you can just ignore it.

The Federal Communications Commission recommends NOT clicking and providing information but contacting the toll agency directly if you feel it's something that could be true.

According to the FCC you can also:

  1. Report and Block: Report the message to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).

  2. Forward to 7726 (SPAM): This reports the message to your wireless provider.

    Federal Communications Commission (.gov) +3

And lastly, if you get a funny feeling and it feels wrong, it probably is.

Your grandma was right about that.

Stay safe friends.
