La Junta’s ‘Poop Problem’ at Industrial Park Could Soon Be Flushed Away

La Junta’s sludge storage solution has been creating quite a stink for Industrial Park Businesses, however, the lid might be closed on that problem soon.

At the July 20th La Junta City Council meeting, city manager Michael Hart reported taking a lot of calls from businesses in the park complaining of the stench of the smells of sludge the city has had to relocate to the lagoons in the park. The flies have also been a problems for businesses located in the park.

Hart said until they can get a new Bio press and get the city staffed trained on how to use it, they have been spraying deodorizer and fly spray in the area.

"It is our goal right now with our sludge judge, that was done, I think it was last week, it was completed and we should have a report within two weeks or so to give us the right kind of polymers, Hart said.

The training was expected to start August 10th, so the city hopes they won't have to use the lagoons for sludge storage going forward.
