(Lamar, CO) -- Southeast Colorado Power Association and its wholly owned subsidiary, SECOM, held its annual meeting this week in Lamar. The annual meeting is a time for members to learn about the electric cooperative’s financial health, get updates on rates and happenings in the industry, meet the board of directors and employees of the co-op, and enjoy a meal together. In collaboration with its G & T, Tri-State, and Basin Electric, Southeast Colorado Power awarded 12 $1,000 scholarships to area students. Four additional scholarships were made possible in memory of Jim and Lizzie Rehfeld. Cash and other prizes were given out to members in attendance. Prowers County 4-H Students served the meal to members.

Cooperatives are democratic organizations controlled by their members, who actively participate in setting policies and making decisions. Representatives (directors/trustees) are elected among the membership and are accountable to them. In primary cooperatives, members have equal voting rights (one member, one vote); cooperatives at other levels are organized democratically.
Southeast Colorado Power Association provides safe and reliable electricity to all or parts of 11 counties in a 13,000-square-mile territory. These counties include Baca, Bent, Cheyenne, Crowley, El Paso, Kiowa, Las Animas, Lincoln, Prowers, and Pueblo counties.
