An effort to improve rural healthcare was celebrated Friday as President Donald Trump detailed the plan in a news conference.

According to the White House in a news release at whitehouse.gov:
The Rural Health Transformation Program will provide an additional $10 billion each year from 2026 through 2030, representing a substantial increase in overall funding for rural hospitals and communities.
This program would strive to meet the specialized needs of rural communities which have failed in the past, according to the White House. The release states that legacy programs are often tied to reimbursements for the services provided in rural health facilities. Instead, the Rural Health Transformation Program would promote ways for the facilities to be sustainable to make investments that would in turn make them stronger for years to come. you can read more from the White House Fact Sheet, here. https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2026/01/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-celebrates-the-great-historic-investment-in-rural-health/
In an article from Politico, Dr. Mehmet Oz who is the head off the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid said the $50 billion dollar investment is intended to make the system better and deal with challenges of improving medicine and healthcare in rural areas. He mentioned it's not intended to just pay off bills.
Just last year, the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta closed its Obstetrics Unit citing fewer babies being born and challenges with Medicaid funding.
