Happy long weekend to you! Labor Day weekend is a time for many folks to enjoy a three day weekend, and it's often called the last hoorah of summer. But you might be interested in knowing a little history of the day.

After the industrial revolution, there was a growing labor movement because workers often faced low pay and long hours. The Labor Day holiday was adopted and received federal recognition after the Pullman Strike of 1894 involving railroad workers, as they were striking, federal troops got involved and there were over 20 deaths. Then President Grover Cleveland signed legislation on June 28, 1894 to declare the first Monday in September a federal holiday and it was called Labor Day.
While we still remember the fight for fair wages and better working conditions, it's also a day for rest at the end of summer.
