Chamber to Help Recognize Area Veterans

(La Junta, CO) -- November 10th, the La Junta Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the community to help recognize area Veterans for Veterans' Day.

At a recent event, the Business, Lunch Talk with the Chamber, it was noted that the La Junta primary is joining in the effort to recognize Veterans with notes of gratitude notes to local vets and Operation Gratitude to distribute them also nationally to Veterans.

At the La Junta intermediate school students have been busy with the project, A Soldier's story, a project of interviewing Veterans and displaying the story with a poster board which will be displayed for the community to see at the upcoming ceremony on November 10th.

The La Junta intermediate color guard will present Vets with care packages donated by Operation Gratitude and following the ceremony there will be a lunch for the Vets. The public may attend for a cost of two dollars.

There will be special music by Kristian Golding Langston and the La Junta junior and senior high with Mary Belew assisting for the ceremony. Student council for the district also plays a role in the ceremony.

Tom Pulido of the American Legion Post 9 will be guest speaker. The Veteran's ceremony is open to the public and will be Nov 10th at 10am at the La Junta Intermediate school.

On November 2nd, there will be a launch of the Green light a vet campaign, changing one light bulb, such as a porch light to green for the month of November to remember our Vets.

So that the community can take part in this for the month of November, Auxillium will set up at the corner of third and Colorado from 1-3 on November 2nd to give our green bulbs to any community member or business who wants one. Walmart donated 150 bulbs and Auxillium donated the rest.
