Boggsville Days Bring History Alive

(the following is a news release from Barb Shively on Boggsville Days)

(Las Animas, CO) -- Come join us for Boggsville Days on Saturday, Oct 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. where living history characters bring the 1860s to life. It’s fun for the whole family and admission is free.

We welcome the Buffalo Soldiers as special guests this year along with a Civil War surgeon, blacksmiths, Civil War cavalrymen, land speculators, mountain men, and fur traders. See traditional Aztec, Mexican, and Native American dancers. Learn the history of branding, how to make tortillas over an open fire, and churn butter the old-fashioned way. Enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride and learn the history of Boggsville from one of our expert historians.

Kids can earn points for free popcorn by playing historic games, making old-fashioned toys, or attending any of the historic demonstrations. We have stickhorse and sack races and will need their help whacking piñatas filled with toys and goodies.

Enjoy a lunch of pulled pork, cowboy beans, and coleslaw, or hot dogs and chips. All drinks are served in a souvenir cup that is re-fillable all day. Visit the Trade Room and concession stand for souvenir gifts, T-shirts, books, baked goods, and treats. All proceeds from this event go toward the preservation of Boggsville Historic Site.

Come out and have some fun while learning about Bent County in the 1860s. The Boggsville Historic Site is located 2 miles south of Las Animas, Colorado on Hwy 101. (Turn off of Hwy 50 at the courthouse.) See you Saturday, Oct 7th.
