The next time your front wheel dips into a pothole in La Junta and you mutter bad words aloud, you can let the city know about it.
At this week's city council meeting, La Junta Mayor Joe Ayala asked Director of Engineering for the Street Department, Martin Montoya to remind everyone of the new feature on the city's website.

Montoya explained that a citizen only has to fill out a form which generates a work order to the street department for action. You can find that form here, just scroll down.
Montoya also gave an update on the paving operations. The Conley road project, which began Monday, June 2nd is expected to be wrapped up within a week. He added that particular project is being reinforced for heavier traffic expected in that location, six inches instead of the usual four inches. That project is requiring about 500 tons of asphalt.
Next up on the list of to-dos for the street department will be paving the road in front of the new Otero County Detention Center on 2nd street between Cimmaron and Smithland. Then, 6th street by the City Municipal Building and the Woodruff Memorial Library.
One of the challenges this year is new ownership in the asphalt company the city of La Junta had been using. A certain amount of asphalt must be ordered at one time instead of just the amount needed. Not all jobs need the amount of asphalt required to be ordered at one time.
"We're at their mercy at this point." Montoya said.
The City of La Junta live streams their meetings which can be watched, either live, or later from the City of La Junta Public Notices Facebook page.
