Colorado legislators were just back in session one day when a bill was introduced to add another surcharge to your internet bill.
Senate Bill 26-008 would fund mental health in the state by creating an enterprise that would collect fees from Internet Service Providers to pay for services.

The Internet Service Provider would be required to get that money from you, the customer. They would have to send this money to the state monthly.
An enterprise would be created to hold the money. The charge is referred to in the bill as a fee not a tax.
If passed, it would start collecting the money January 1st of 2027.
While the bill has just been introduced with the first reading, it now moves to the Health and Human Services Committee for debate.
The bill's sponsors are Senator Dafna Michaelson-Jenet and Representative Lindsey Gilchrist, both are Democrats.
We will continue to follow this bill as it affects everyone with internet service in Southeast Colorado, yes, including us.
