Monument Dedicated to the Women of Boggsville

(Las Animas, CO) -- Through some strong Southeast Colorado wind, members of the DAR, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated an historic monument at the Boggsville Historical Site. The dedication at the historical site was to honor and recognize the women of Boggsville.

DAR Colorado Chapter Regent for 21-2 Barb Goettelman was involved in the dedication and said while the men were away at war and settling the land, the women had to sustain their families "The wives of these three impressive humans who settled Boggsville really is the backbone and the mainstay of this being the historical site that it it, not only through the national registrars entity but also now with the National Society with the Daughters of the American Revolution."

The monument is dedicated to the women of Boggsville and their multicultural influence on the settlement of the Southeast Colorado Plains.

A scout troop who camped overnight at the historical site helped retire a flag and raise a new one.

There were more than 50 in attendance for the dedication on Saturday. The monument is at the front of the site near the entrance and flag.
