Local Firefighters Receive Support and Relief

(Las Animas, CO) -- Dawn Sanchez is the fire information officer on the Rocky Mountain Incident Management team 3 and her role is relief. Sanchez says the team was ordered by the state to deploy to Southeast Colorado and help out with the Fort Lyon fire and the Bent's Fort Fire.

As of 9:15 pm Wednesday night, she said the Bent's Fort Fire is 25 percent contained and the Fort Lyon fire is 50 percent contained. She expects high winds to continue to make the task difficult, however. Crews from their team will be out throughout the night Wednesday night to monitor. Sanchez says it gives local departments a break to go home, rest, repair their trucks and see their families.

The Rocky Mountain Incident Management team 3 is made up of firefighters from Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas South Dakota and Nebraska.

They are using the La Junta fire station as a base and will be providing updates through us at Colorado News Your Way and on social media with the La Junta Fire Department.
