(Las Animas, CO) -- The City of Las Animas is doing without their code enforcement officer for some time.
Charles Gregory Champney, otherwise known as Greg Champney is on paid leave according to Las Animas City Clerk and Treasurer Charmaine Tripp. Tripp said the Las Animas City Council will likely be making a decision on how to continue with the action at a special call meeting on Tuesday, May 24th at 6pm. The meeting is open to the public and will also be available to view and listen to on the city's social media page, on Facebook.
Champney turned himself into the Bent County Sheriff's office following charges related to the Ft. Lyon fire that burned almost 3,000 acres and destroyed two homes.
The city employee was booked into the jail on three felony charges related to the fire. Champney posted bond in the amount of $10,000. He has a June 6th court date for his first appearance.
