Fireworks! NOT this year in La Junta

Fire Chief of La Junta Brad Davidson stated on the record before La Junta City Council that this is not the year for fireworks in La Junta. Davidson said it is a tough thing to go after but he met with Sheriff Shawn Mobley and decided to suspend the selling of fireworks within the city limits.

"We are at a point where we are very dry," Davidson told of a recent fire near Delhi that he helped on. He said it could've been much bigger due to the drought and severe lack of rainfall.

I know it's a big year for America with the 250 Birthday Bash this year.

He wants the public to help keep the community safe from fires.

He also asked the public to call it in if they see or hear illegal fireworks.

"This year I'm going to bring in a couple of extra people to put another truck on the street." the preparation is to keep safety in the forefront.

Davidson reminded that law enforcement will be watching for fireworks.
