Busy Night Ahead for La Junta City Council with Public Input Expected

La Junta City Council is expected to have a full meeting tonight, Monday, July 6th. According to the agenda, there will be talk on the parking lot of the Brick and Tile Park, a presentation from the American Legion post 9 by Rick Ward and Dr. Timothy Snyder, and there will be a report from the Library Advisory Board.

Other business set for discussion on the agenda includes an audit report/presentation and a review of the 2026 Financial Statements.

At a city council meeting last month, community members addressed concerns about the La Junta Police Chief, Todd Quick, and his fitness for duty. There's no official confirmation but Colorado News Your Way has received information that more public comment on this topic could happen at tonight's meeting.

The meeting is in the City Municipal building, upstairs in the auditorium. The public is welcome to attend. The public is also welcome to stand and voice their concerns to the council during the public comment section. The meeting starts at 6pm and is Monday, July 6th, 2026.

The council plans an executive session that the public is not allowed to attend. Reasons given on the agenda for the session include talking about an issue with an employee, addressing a complaint about a staff member and they will decide what to do about it. They might also make plans for possible negotiations and give directions to the people handling those discussions.

Under Colorado law, executive sessions are for governing bodies to discuss sensitive information concerning personnel or legal issues.
