Brick and Tile, Riff and Raff, Residents Voice Concerns Over Noise and Nuisance

Several La Junta residents went before City Council Monday night to voice concerns over the "Brick and Tile" Park.

Four La Junta residents stood to tell council members they are bothered at all hours of the night with children screaming, multiple cars doing burnouts and doughnuts, and loitering in the park late at night.

Kate Smith and her husband Cole live on eighth street near the park and say there's an abundance of "Riff Raff."

"It's just not fun to live on our block anymore," Kate said.

Cole Smith said they have called law enforcement while it's happening but haven't received any help. Smith said they told them they can't do anything without vehicle plate numbers.

He went on to say perhaps something could be done to locate the cars.

"It's a small town, they can find these cars."

The residents showing up to speak out about the almost nightly nuisiance say they would like support from the city to make their neighborhood peaceful again. They suggested putting up cameras at the park, maybe installing a parking lot gate.

Mayor Joe Ayala thanked the group and thanked Cole for his willingness to share his camera footage with the city when they have needed it.

Residents of La Junta have speak out in the public comment section of the regularly scheduled city council meetings. They are limited to five minutes, and must state their full name and address.

La Junta City Council records the meetings live on social media on their Facebook page titled, City of La Junta Public Notices. If you miss the meeting on the twice monthly Mondays at 6pm, it is available for viewing on the page.
