Bent County Republicans Want Citizens to Speak Out for 2nd Amendment Rights at Next Meeting

Bent County Republicans are calling for all citizens concerned with their 2nd Amendment right to attend next week's County Commissioner meeting, September 4th at 9am at the courthouse in Las Animas.
In an email to the community, the party stressed the importance of speaking out as commissioners will be deciding whether or not to pursue a grant that would fund a single entry point at the courthouse.
The concern, according to the party, on this action stems from a bill that was passed last year prohibiting the lawful carry of a firearm in government buildings. At the time of the passing of the state legislation, Bent County Commissioners voted in favor of a resolution that would allow legal and lawful carry in the courthouse, not courtroom, but the building. While the resolution was passed, an action by Judge Mark MacDonnell, the chief judge of the 16th judicial district, passed an administrative order to override the resolution due to safety concerns.
The email to the community stated real concerns with leaving citizens and staff to defend themselves without a firearm in the event they would need to.
The action on the agenda for commissioners will be to decide whether or not Bent County will match funds for a grant to implement a single entry point.
Bent County Republicans shared email of commissioners and other county and district officials and encouraged citizens to email them with concerns and thoughts. They also asked the community to share with others who want to protect their 2nd amendment rights to attend the meeting and speak out.
