Guilty! The Third Time to Trial Completes the Seven Year Journey for Aragon

(La Junta, CO) -- Edward Aragon finally knows his fate. A jury in district court in Otero County returned a guilty of first degree murder verdict Wednesday after a more than two week trial.

You might wonder why you keep hearing about this case over and over.

It's been on-going on a quest to make it to trial for several years. Assistant District Attorney Jim Bullock told us this time was the third time to trial. In February, the trial happened but in the 11th hour of finishing it, it was discovered that missing evidence could affect the ability for Aragon to receive a fair trial. Fifteenth Judicial district judge Michael Davidson, presiding over the trial, called for a mistrial. It was rescheduled for June but then at the last minute before it was to happen it was delayed again. This time the delay was due to the fact that transcripts from the February trial were not ready.

But this third time to trial was the finish line as the jury finds Edward Aragon guilty of first degree murder.

There will be a sentencing hearing for Aragon December 16th at 3pm according to the Otero County docket.

Aragon has been in jail since 2015 for the death of his girlfriend, Amanda Ybarra who was killed in a Rocky Ford home in 2015.
